Take time and gently brush the swimming pool walls using a brush. Ensure that you remove any green algae as well as all other unwanted materials. This should also be done before adding the chemicals to the pool water.
Examine the Swimming Pool Pump and Filter
Check the pump basket for debris. Also check the filter. It is worth mentioning that the pool pump becomes less effective with time and you should keep on checking to ensure that it is in good working condition. It’s recommended that you change the filter after 3 years usage.

Super-Chlorinate
This is commonly referred to as ‘shock a pool’ because this is what the chlorine does to bacteria and algae in the pool. Add chlorine to water to water and mix accordingly. A point of caution is that when you are mixing the chlorine granules, you should always add chlorine to water and not vice versa. The amount of chlorine that you will use will depend on the condition of the swimming pool water. Remember, to follow the instructions of the manufacturer when adding the chlorine.
Test the Water Balance
In order for the chlorine to work effectively, the PH has to be between 7.2 and 7.6. In addition, the total alkalinity has to be between 80 to 120 ppm and the Calcium hardness levels have to be correct. Take time and use a test kit to check the water balance so that you can ensure everything is fine.
Retest the Water the Following Day
After 24 hours, ensure that you retest the water PH as well as the chlorine levels. Once the pool is in a balanced condition, it’s time to enjoy a good swim with your friends and family.
To ensure that your swimming is always clean, it is advisable that you buy a pool cover. This will prevent leaves and other debris from entering the pool. Maintaining your pool is an essential hygiene requirement that you should not take lightly. The level of maintenance of your pool must match the level of its usage. But apart from cleaning the pool water itself, cleaning the pool regularly is important to avoid build up of pollutants or grime.
